The Decline– part 1: Solomon

Daily Devotionals

This week’s series of devotions looks at the decline of God’s people from the Monarchy to the Exile. In the first of this series, Stuart Holman considers the causes of Solomon’s decline in 1 Kings 11 and asks how we can protect ourselves from a similar kind of spiritual decline. Our response must be an uncompromisingly honest examination of our hearts before God, independent of our culture’s voices, ready to avail ourselves of God’s grace in Jesus for a fresh start.

Ecclesiastes, part 6

In this special ‘bonus’ 6th part of ‘Ecclesiastes in Uncertain Times’, Vanessa Hughes sums up the book, and leaves us with a final thought. Feel free to contribute your comments and links in the section below.

In this fifth part of ‘Ecclesiastes in Uncertain Times’, Vanessa Hughes helps us to draw upon God’s wisdom even when nothing makes sense. Where do we find meaning? Where do we find joy? Where is enduring value to be found in our lives?

1 Samuel 16:1-13. “My chosen one…”

Mal York continues our series of devotions on the lives of the first Kings of Israel. Previously we saw that Saul was the kind of King the people wanted, one like the surrounding nations. But after Saul’s disobedience and rejection, God directs Saul to anoint the one of God’s own choosing. Feel free to add your comments below.
